Dr. Tom Nixon

Dr. Tom Nixon

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Tom Nixon was born and raised in Ormond Beach, Florida. He graduated with his bachelors from the University of Central Florida and went on to receive his doctorate degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. Dr. Nixon has advanced training in spinal correction, toxicity, exercise and nutrition from some of the largest health clinics in the country including time spent at the Maximized Living Scoliosis Correction Center in Celebration, FL. He and his wife, Marissa, now live in Winston Salem, North Carolina as owners of a Maximized Living Health Center, Twin City Health.

Dedicated to transforming the health of families in the Triad community, Dr. Nixon is committed to teaching how to achieve true healing through lifestyle choices and the maintenance of a healthy nervous system. Dr. Nixon spends countless hours training, studying, and learning the most advanced chiropractic techniques and wellness information to ensure his patients receive the best care possible. His mission to help people break free of unnecessary suffering propels his passion to serve his community by holding free wellness workshops for local businesses, churches, schools, organizations, and anywhere there is a need.

Maximized Living is most well-known for being the official chiropractic and performance team for Olympic Governing Bodies and their athletes to achieve optimal performance. Maximized Living doctors traveled to London 2012 and cared for 3 governing bodies with USA Wrestling, Weightlifting, and Judo, helping the teams bring home several medals including gold for Olympian, Kayla Harrison.

From Dr. Nixon: At a young age, I watched as my dad battled type II diabetes, high blood pressure, two heart attacks and underwent a quadruple heart bypass. He was diagnosed with chronic heart disease and was told he would be on medication for the rest of his life. Not accepting this conclusion, my dad sought a natural route through chiropractic care, nutrition and exercise instead of merely treating his symptoms. After a changed mindset and much work, he reversed his diabetes, heart disease, and came off all his medication. My dad’s journey and the impact his loss of health had on my family during that time is what inspired me to become a doctor of chiropractic. I love the opportunity I have to empower and encourage people to reach their potential, both in life and in health, and to provide hope that they are not defined by their diagnosis. My mission and privilege is to help another mother, father, child, friend, etc get their health back so they can not only fulfill the life they were called to, but also to help and inspire those around them make healthy life choices. The movement of Maximized Living is striving to change the way healthcare is viewed and delivered in this country, and I absolutely believe it is possible with education and each of us taking responsibility for our health. My wife and I were called to the city of Winston Salem. We love our town, are grateful for the mission we are a part of, and look forward to every person and family we get to meet and help achieve their highest potential of health.

Marissa Nixon

Marissa Nixon

Clinical Director

Marissa is the owner and director of Twin City Health with her husband Dr. Tom Nixon. After graduating from Florida State University’s College of Business and spending years as a corporate event planner, Marissa experienced firsthand the powerful results of chiropractic.

Originally a huge skeptic (she truly thought Maximized Living was a scam), she understands other’s hesitations, questions, concerns, and doubts. It wasn’t until she gained enormous relief from decades of terrible migraines and witnessed others around her (including her own family) experience life-changing results, that she became incredibly passionate about sharing the benefits of chiropractic care. Marissa’s greatest joy is seeing people step into their God-given purpose and couldn’t be more grateful to be part of exactly that both in their health center and as part of the Maximized Living family. She loves seeing patients, her team, as well as other chiropractors come alive as they regain their health and discover their value.

With the mission of making an impact in their city through empowering others to care for their health and providing education of the natural ways to do so, she and her husband opened Twin City Health in January 2013. Through wellness events, working one on one with patients, and leading her team, Marissa is honored to not only have grown one of the largest Maximized Living Health Centers in the country, but more-so to celebrate the small and large health achievements with her patients. Whether it’s the simple ability for a mom to pick up her child again or a teenager who is able to cancel his scoliosis surgery, every story makes all the work worthwhile.

Her desire is to collaborate with other health leaders in Winston-Salem and is determined to change the health of her city for the hope of generations to come. She believes the state of our current healthcare system is heartbreaking. Medications can serve a purpose but often cover symptoms without finding the cause, nutrition is often discarded, a whole-body approach is sadly uncommon, and chiropractic is viewed mostly as an option to avoid. Knowing that so many families are suffering needlessly because of a lack of knowledge is what drives her to seek change.

Fun fact: she and Dr. Nixon started dating in high school and have been together ever since. When not working to help more people, you’ll find them exploring the great outdoors, traveling to various seminars for personal growth, playing in the snow at every opportunity possible (again, they’re from Florida), and sharing delicious (and healthy) meals with family & friends.

Dr. Jessica Lee

Dr. Jessica Lee

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Jessica was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area before attending college at Virginia Tech. After graduating from college she moved back home and worked as a personal trainer before realizing she had a passion to help others with more than just their fitness levels. She watched as loved ones around her lost their health without knowing where to seek proper help to regain it and wanted to do something to change it. She felt and knew she had a greater calling to give others hope through empowering them to attain a healthier life.

At Palmer Chiropractic College she met Dr. Nixon who introduced her to Maximized Living. She felt Maximized Living was a family of people looking to lead and help people achieve their health goals so she was naturally drawn and committed to the mission. She loves being a part of a group that is all about serving and loving others.

After chiropractic school, Dr. Jessica lived in Columbia, SC where she worked at another Maximized Living Health Center. After the Nixons invited her to come visit Winston Salem one weekend, she felt a connection and calling to the city and to be part of the Twin City Chiropractic team.

When Dr. Jessica is not at the office, you can find her hiking with her border collie, Maggie, or in a CrossFit gym. She enjoys spending time doing anything in nature, hiking, snowboarding, or spending time at a beach.

Lisa

Lisa

Patient Care Coordinator

Lisa began with Maximized Living as a patient. She had struggled with various health issues since childhood, but never imagined it could get as bad as it did. She had a laundry list of problems: chronic sinusitis and bronchitis, allergies, migraine headaches, digestive problems, menstrual problems, insomnia, joint pain, sciatica and got an average six to eight viral infections a year. She was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and depression which brought muscle pain, weakness, crushing pain in her hands and feet, profound exhaustion, difficulty concentrating and even hair loss. She was taking six different medications every day including anti-depressants which she was told she would need for the rest of her life. At that point, she had no hope but began care with Maximized Living as a last resort because it was the one thing she hadn’t tried.

As she began to implement the Five Essentials into her life, everything changed. She reversed every diagnosis she was given, got off all medications, starting losing weight, and got her life back. Today, she is the healthiest she has ever been! Her life was truly transformed so she changed careers to help others toward hope and healing.

Lisa is the proud rescue momma of two dogs and three cats. In her free time, she loves spending time with her loved ones and her church community, enjoys art, theatre, and tromping around in the woods.

Tiffany Cox

Tiffany Cox

Patient Relations

Tiffany originally entered through the doors of Twin City Health as a patient. With six years of debilitating back pain, loss of mobility, and four years of migraines, she had lost all hope as a young mom that she could live pain free. She was unable to sit, drive or even play with her children in the yard or on the floor. Soon after beginning care, Tiffany got her life back! No longer living with migraines, back pain, loss of mobility and a myriad of other health issues, she can now be the mom and wife she wanted to be and the woman of God she is called to be.

After experiencing how much Maximized Living changed her life, she was eager to join the Twin City Health team to help bring the same hope she experienced to other patients.

Tiffany is also Jonathan’s wife, mom to two adorable girls and works alongside Jonathan in ministry. When she isn’t working, she loves spending time with her friends & family, writing, studying the Bible and enjoying the outdoors.

Jonathan Cox

Jonathan Cox

Exam Technician

Jonathan joined the team in September 2014 originally knowing very little about chiropractic or the five essentials but eager to be part of an organization that cared for people. He quickly learned and saw firsthand people’s lives change for the better including his own. Jon had struggled with stomach ulcers, acid reflux, headaches and lower back pain. After receiving chiropractic care and implementing the other essentials, he no longer experiences any of those.

Jonathan is passionate about sharing the truth of health with all who will listen. He loves helping patients and discussing different ways to live a maximized life. When he isn’t helping to change lives in the office, he is leading worship at his church with his wife, helping with youth programs, playing music, spending time with his little family and finding new ways to create healthy and delicious meals.
